Dr Axel Wietfeld serves as CEO of Uniper Hydrogen GmbH. Under its new strategy, Uniper aims to become carbon-neutral in Europe by 2035 and has therefore established the new Business Line Hydrogen, which Axel is heading, in order to develop commercial and technical power-to-gas and hydrogen solutions. Axel is also a member of the board of GIE (Gas Infrastructure Europe) and serves as President of GIE’s storage unit GSE (Gas Storage Europe). Axel joined Uniper (formerly E.ON) in 2002 and held a number of executive positions in its gas supply/LNG and renewables business in Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Hungary and South Africa. In his recent position as Managing Director of Uniper Energy Storage (2016 to 2020), Axel has been leading one of Europe’s largest gas storage operators. Prior to joining E.ON, Axel served as manager of two leading strategy consulting companies.
